Wavien, Inc. announces today the introduction of a 1,000-lumen projector to be manufactured and sold by AAXA Technologies, Inc. (AAXA). This new projector, which uses Wavien's proprietary DPR™ light engine, outperforms LED projectors by producing 1,000 lumens of brightness and a lifetime of 25,000 hours at the cost of a conventional desktop projector.
A production prototype unit will be shown at the Wavien booth, #5283, at the InfoComm in Orlando, Florida from June 15th to 17th. Performance, pricing, and delivery details for the new projector are now available from AAXA.
"Wavien's DPR light engine provides a maintenance-free light source for projectors suitable for home theater/gaming applications, classrooms and small conference rooms. It outperforms LED projectors, providing a higher output, smaller footprint and longer lifetime, at a lower cost," stated Dr. Kenneth Li, President and CEO of Wavien, Inc., who is also the inventor of the DPR technology. From Bulky Machines to the 'SixthSense': Projector Lamps Have Come a Long Way
With only four years out of college, it's hard to imagine the classroom tools and methods I used on my path toward a bachelor's degree are almost extinct. Gone are the days of taking notes on white, lined paper, as they've been replaced by high-tech laptops and tablets. Meanwhile, students are able to "check in" with their teacher through telepresence and online sessions – right from the comfort of their dorm rooms (pajamas, anyone?)
Go even further back in time, and it's hard to forget my elementary school days – pre-PowerPoint presentation – when teachers displayed slides of images and text on white pull-down screens using old-fashioned DLP and LCD projectors. Who can forget the monotonous humming sound that emanated from these pre-historic machines, better yet the simplicity of turning a dial to take you to the next slide?
Flash up to the present, and projectors, as well as the bulbs used to power them, are nowhere near where they originated. They've come a long way, starting as bulky machines that over the years transformed into less bulkier machines often seen on conference tables and in entertainment spaces, and eventually molding into what they are today: innovative, creative and often portable devices that resemble something out of an action movie.

"It really can act as one of these sixth sense devices that gives you relevant information of what is in front of you," said Maes, who further explained how consumers can use this projector creation to obtain product reviews and further information by simply scanning an item with the components.
This creation is also perfect for those judgmental people out there, whom can see words associated with another person through the information posted on their personal blogs, social networking sites, etc. Though controversial, it's pretty clever! If only we had this during our lecture halls…

Acer launches pico LED projector
PC giant Acer has today launched its first pico LED projector.
The C20 is a DLP (digital light processing) technology projector with WVGA (800×480-pixel) resolution with built-in HDMI and USB input.
Output brightness is 20 ANSI lumens and the device will operate for two hours on its built-in battery. LED lamp life is rated at 20,000 hours.
It's available now $349. An optional 15-inch screen sells for $49.
ANALYSIS: The main problem with all of these pico projectors is the lack of light output. The 20 ANSI Lumens on offer here appears no different. You'll need a darkened room to get a decent image. The fact this one offers 16:9 aspect ratio output is a plus on most that offer 640×480-pixel resolution only, but the basic issue is you” struggle to get enough light out of one of these.
If you're considering something to give a bigger-than-TV image on a budget, there are a number of SVGA (800×600-pixel) DLP projectors including Acer's own X1161 with 2500 ANSI lumen output selling for as little as $550 in Australian online. Replacement lamp costs are usually an issue with high-output projectors with replacement lamps lasting around 4000 hours and costing $200 or more. It depends on what you're looking for.

NEC Display Solutions supplements its M-series with short-throw models
The new models, introduced last autumn, deliver impressive presentations even over
short projection distances. The throw ratio of only 0.47:1 results in a distance of
about 75cm/90cm between the front of the lens and a 77"/87" whiteboard. This minimises
shadows and glare effects and gives presenters more space to move around and interact
with their audience.
The innovative energy-saving features of the M-series also reduce the operating costs
of the short-throw models. As with the other models in the M-series, the NEC short-
throw projectors' outstanding energy footprint is based on an efficient mix resulting
from a lamp life and filter cleaning interval of up to 6,000 hours and effective
energy-conservation features. For example, the innovative Auto Eco Mode automatically
adapts the luminous power of the lamp to the presentation content. Dark content results
in reduced luminosity and at the same time lower power consumption.
Another innovation is the 75% AV Mute function, which allows the picture to be muted
simply by pushing the green AV mute button on the remote control. The presenter can
thus fully focus the audience's attention on him-/herself for a brief period. Moreover,
the projector remains fully operational during breaks in the presentation. Reducing the
