Microvision Intros Laser Pico Projectors for Mobile Big-Screen Sharing
The new SHOWWX+ HDMI offers pure digital connectivity including mobile big-screen sharing and visual collaboration on a wide range of new tablets, smartphones and devices offering HDMI video-out, enabling users to connect and project everything on their device screens at image sizes greater than 100 inches in a matter of second.
This compact, plug-and-play projector is the perfect accessory for sharing content while on the move, according to company officials. With devices like RIM's BlackBerry (News - Alert) PlayBook and Apple's iPad 2 featuring advanced operating systems, the projector enables true display mirroring, company officials said.
By adding HDMI connectivity to SHOWWX line of projectors, the company extends the family of host devices compatible with MicroVision's display delivering a larger, more vivid, focus-free viewing experience to an extended range of mobile devices once the HDMI standard is broadly adopted.
"We are giving road warriors the ability to share digital content in a compelling manner, from the palms of their hands," said Alexander Tokman, president and CEO of MicroVision, in a statement. "Extending our connectivity expands our device ecosystem. Now even more mobile device users can break free from huddling around their palm or pad-sized screens to enjoy a bigger and more immersive viewing experience anywhere, at work or play."
SHOWWX+ HDMI projects the content from a host device through HDCP compliance. In addition, MicroVision's unique in-motion laser display technology provides focus-free crisp images that do not suffer from the image deterioration or "color break-up" that often occurs with other projection technologies.
The projector is certified for use with Apple iPhone, iPad, iPad 2 and iPod touch. It also works with BlackBerry Playbook and Windows 7 tablets, a range of compatible Android and Symbian (News - Alert) smartphones, as well as Windows and Apple notebooks, netbooks and ultra portable HDMI-enabled devices. Additionally SHOWWX+ HDMI also works with compatible digital cameras and camcorders, as well as laptops and notebooks through an optional VGA dock.
MicroVision recently announced SYNNEX (News - Alert) K.K. as the first authorized distributor of SHOWWX in Japan. SYNNEX will supply the laser based pico projector authorized for the Japanese market to key online and brick-and-mortar resellers, while also managing the product's localized marketing efforts and after-sales support.

Window cleaners' lucky escape in Burnley
TWO window cleaners have told of their lucky escape after a lamp post almost crushed their work’s van in Burnley.
Lee Pickering and his boss Neil Holt were travelling to work along Centenary Way, just before 7.45am, when the drama unfolded.
Earlier that morning an accident involving a Chevrolet car and a Fiat Doblo had seen one of the vehicles career into a 20-foot high metal lamp post, causing the road to be closed for a short period.
Lee, from the Brunshaw area of Burnley, had just been picked up by Neil and the pair were en-route to Great Harwood when they drove past the stricken structure.
He said: “We were travelling along Centenary Way when suddenly the police shouted at us to stop and the lamp post toppled over.”
Fortunately the pair’s Fiat van had three industrial ladders fixed to the roof, which helped to cushion part of the blow.
The ladders were badly damaged and a dent left in the roof.
Neil said: “I don’t know why the police didn’t close the road - they could have diverted the traffic through town.”
Lee said: “We were a bit shook up - it’s not every day that a lamp post collapses on top of your van.
“Luckily we had the ladders on the roof or we could very well have been killed.”
Police immediately reclosed the road after the incident, and the lamp post was carefully removed. The Fiat van was also taken away by repair contractors.
The pair eventually made it to Great Harwood for their round.
“We were all right for about an hour or two but then it sunk in, what had happened, and we felt a bit sick,” added Lee.
Police are investigating the incident which happened on Friday and why the road was reopened to traffic.

Restaurant's E-Table Menu Projects Dinner Choices onto Table
Having worked in restaurants for years, we know that a snapshot of the dish as advertised being immediately available to the diner means the chef needs to be a bit more careful about consistency of prep. “Hey, this isn’t like the picture,” will surely be heard more than once.
When we lived in Istanbul, before we got the hang of Turkish, we appreciated the restaurants that would thoughtfully include photos of the dish on the menu. It takes a bit of guesswork out, so this will be equally appreciated.
The restaurant, Inamo St. James calls its innovation the E-Table, and it works via projectors hidden in the ceiling. Your table becomes a touchscreen monitor for browsing the menu. The drink and menu choices are there, and you can use it to book a taxi or browse nearby neighborhoods as well.
Yes it’s a nifty innovation, the gee-whiz factor will certainly result in more than a few reservations, but friends, why give an already distraction-addicted clientele yet one more obstacle to overcome on the way to a relaxing, pleasant evening out for two people?
Unfortunately, it’s only made for two people , as the “the biggest E-Table can only seat two,” GeekTech notes, adding that there’s reportedly a Taiwanese restaurant with similiar technology.
Call us stuffy Luddites, but we rather suspect that just as we prefer a live hostess and a live waiter when we go out, we’d probably prefer a solid wood table and discussing the menu options with the wait staff.

The VPL-HW30ES is capable of taking 2D
Sony has announced the VPL-HW30ES 3D home theatre projector that incorporates Sony’s latest lamp technology, Dynamic Lamp Control system. Movie fans can now enjoy an unrivalled 3D cinematic experience with stunning 3D images that are three times brighter than Sony’s first 3D home theatre projector, the VPL-VW90ES which was launched in Asia Pacific last year.
Sony’s latest Dynamic Lamp Control Technology significantly boosts the brightness levels entering the shutters of the 3D glasses, maximising the picture’s impact and the lamp’s efficiency. The opening and closing of the shutters on the 3D glasses are intelligently synchronised to ensure that each eye receives the accurate image, thus reducing crosstalk to a minimum. In order to achieve an optimal viewing experience that feels natural on the eye, the Full high definition 3D VPL-HW30ES home theatre projector is equipped with Sony’s High Frame Rate SXRD Panel (1920x1080), for exceptionally sharper, dot-free images.
The new VPL-HW30ES delivers contrast ratio of 70,000:1 and brightness of 1,300 lumens. In addition, “3D crosstalk” is further reduced to a minimal thanks to the 240Hz SXRD panel drive system and the unique Dynamic Lamp Control Technology. The automatic Advanced Iris Control feature enhances the contrast levels in accordance with the scene by maximising black and white levels without diminishing peak brightness. Sony’s new Motionflow technology allows the VPL-HW30ES to display twice as many images per second. This algorithm, unique to Sony, reproduces dramatically sharper and smoother movements and reduces the image motion blur for a crisper image.
The VPL-HW30ES is capable of taking 2D and simulating 3D images, bringing new life to classic movies from the past and allowing a wide variety of content, such as live sports, to be enjoyed. Sony’s innovative Independent 2D/3D Picture Mode on the VPL-HW30ES allows you to select separate parameters for 2D and 3D content and to change each setting individually to optimise each picture image settings whether watching in 2D or 3D.
The VPL-HW30ES also runs very quietly with an advanced air discharge system for a highly efficient cooling system, suppressing noise level to a mere 22dB without interrupting the viewer’s immersion during the movie-going experience.
The VPL-HW30ES is compatible with Sony’s new active shutter glasses, the TDG-PJ1, which are 18 grams lighter than the previous model (59g compared to 77g). The TDG-PJ1, charged in 30 minutes provides 30 hours of continuous watching. In conjunction with the new glasses, Sony has announced a new transmitter, the TMR-PJ1, which synchronises 3D content effortlessly to generate a high-quality natural 3D effect.
